Born in 1983 in Hampshire, UK. Ed Fornieles has lived and worked in London, Los Angeles, and Montreal.
Fornieles’ immersive installations, sculptures and web-based projects such as the Facebook sitcom Dormdaze and Maybe New Friends, an ongoing performance by Twitterbots have explored a hyperactive and ultimately dystopian vision of social media informing the drama and objects of everyday life. Fornieles’ recent exhibition Modern Family at Chisenhale, London used aggregated social media data to inform an installation organised around the archetype of an American family. When scripting live performances, Fornieles plummets participants into Instagram paranoia and Tumblr black holes.
Recent solo exhibitions and projects include Jupiter Ascending, Carl Kostyal, Stockholm; Despicable Me 2, Mihai Nicodim Gallery, Los Angeles; The Dreamy Awards, Park Nights, Serpentine Gallery, London; Characterdate, Frieze Frame, Frieze London and Happy Days in Basel, Theater Basel. Recent performances include New York New York Happy Happy (NY NY HP HP) for Rhizome, New Museum, New York and Pool Party Plays Itself, MOCAtv, Los Angeles. Fornieles participated in Meanwhile... Suddenly, and Then, the 12th Biennale de Lyon.
